If you already subscribe to Apple Music

If you have an Individual subscription to Apple Music, you can change to a Student subscription in the Music app or in iTunes on a computer. You can also change on an Android device.

If you already subscribe to Apple Music, your Student subscription won’t take effect until your current billing cycle comes to an end. You won’t be billed at the Student price until your date of renewal.

If you see a message that says «This device is linked to another Apple ID,» learn how to disassociate your device.

You can also change the email address that you use as your Apple ID.

If you’re a part of a Family subscription

If you’re already part of an Apple Music Family subscription, you probably don’t need a Student subscription.

If you’re in a Family Sharing group, and you change to a Student subscription, your family organizer will be billed both for your Student and the Family subscription.

If you’re the organizer of a Family Sharing group, and you change to a Student subscription, the rest of your group will lose access to Apple Music. The next time they sign in to Apple Music, each family member will see an option to join as an individual. If you remain the family organizer, you’ll continue to be billed for your Family Sharing group’s iTunes purchases, including subscriptions.

Learn how to manage your Apple Music subscription.

Verify your eligibility

Near the end of each year that you have an Apple Music Student subscription, you’ll be asked to verify your student status. You can verify your status on an iOS device or an Android device.

When you see a message in the Music app that asks you to verify your status, follow these steps:

  1. Tap Verify Eligibility.
  2. Tap «Go to Website.»
  3. Sign in to your institution’s portal.

After you sign in to your institution’s portal, you’ll be directed back to Apple Music and see a confirmation screen.

Verify in Settings on an iOS device

You can also verify your student status at any time through Settings on your iOS device:

  1. Go to Settings > [your name] > iTunes & App Store.
  2. Tap your Apple ID, then tap View Apple ID. You might need to authenticate your Apple ID.
  3. Tap Subscriptions. If you have more than one subscription, tap Apple Music Membership.
  4. Follow the prompts to verify your eligibility. If the verification is successful, you’ll automatically return to Apple Music and continue your Apple Music Student subscription.

If you’re no longer a student or if you complete 48 months of a Student subscription, your subscription automatically becomes an Apple Music Individual subscription. If you’re prompted to verify your student status after launching Apple Music, but you are no longer a student or have completed 48 months of a subscription, tap I’m No Longer A Student. You won’t be asked to verify again.

If you don’t confirm during the verification period, and you still have time left in your 48 months, you’ll have to re-enroll as a student.
